XYLOSE & XYLITOL

Orochem has developed technology to separate Xylose from C5 Sugars in wood/ bagasse biomass. Bio-refineries process the biomass mainly for alcohol fermentation. The C5 sugar stream contains 30% – 50% Xylose which can be separated using Orochem’s SMB process and then converted to Xylitol which is a substitute sweetening agent in the food industry.
There are selective fermentation processes for only converting Xylose to Xylitol in the C5 sugar stream in bio-refineries. Orochem offers SMB technology for separation of Xylitol from the fermentation product and for recycling balance Xylose back for fermentation.
