High-Performance HPLC Columns for All Chromatography Applications

HPLC Column Selection

Understanding HPLC Columns & Types of Chromatography
Column selection depends on the type of chromatography and the chemical properties of your analytes — including polarity, molecular size, and functional groups. Most HPLC analytes are organic molecules that vary in polarity from highly polar to non-polar, with some containing ionic functionalities. For optimal separations, mobile phase composition, pH, and ionic strength are carefully adjusted.
Reversed-Phase Chromatography Columns
Reversed-Phase Chromatography is the branch of HPLC that uses a hydrophobic treated silica as the stationary phase. The hydrophobic treatment is derived from a silane bonding agent. Polar solvents, including water, are typically used as the mobile phase. The analytes are separated based on their retention behavior on the stationary phase. More retentive species elute later from the stationary phase. The mobile phase concentration is adjusted to give the best chromatography.
Normal Phase & HILIC Chromatography Columns
Normal Phase / HILIC Chromatography is the branch of HPLC that uses a hydrophilic silica surface as the stationary phase. Normal phase / HILIC chromatography separates analytes based on their affinity for polar stationary phases. The analytes are typically soluble in non-polar solvents. Many normal phases are derived from silane bonding agents. Bear silica is also used in normal phase HPLC. Adjustments in mobile phase concentration are made to give the best chromatography.
Orochem HPLC Column Brands
Reliasil Normal Phases and Reversed-Phases HPLC Column
Reliasil HPLC columns are designed for high efficiency (high plate count) and general utility. The proprietary silica gel manufacturing process yields a Gaussian particle size distribution, narrow pore-size distribution, and strong resistance to high pH.

HILIC Phases: NH2
Reversed Phases: C1, C4, C8, C18, C30, Phenyl, Polyamine, PFP
Ion-exchanged Phases: SCX, SAX
pH Range: 2-8.5,
Pore Sizes: 100 and 300 Å
Orosil Reversed-Phases HPLC Column
Orosil HPLC columns are designed for the separation of polar, semi-polar, and nonpolar compounds at low to medium pH
Phases: C8, C18
pH Range: 1.5-9.0
Orosil GOLD Reversed-Phase HPLC Columns
Orosil GOLD HPLC stationary phases use high-purity silica gel and are designed for the separation of polar, semi-polar, and non-polar compounds at low to medium pH.
Orosil GOLD C18 phase is a high carbon-loaded phase containing 20% carbon, and it is fully endcapped.
Orosil GOLD Polar C18 is a high carbon-loaded phase containing 19% carbon and a proprietary polar endcap. It is designed for those difficult separations of polar and semi-polar compounds and shows superior selectivity of basic compounds. It is compatible with 100% aqueous phases. It’s great for drug of abuse panel and alcohol metabolite separation.
Orosil GOLD C18-ER (extended range) is prepared using a sterically-hindered C18 group chemically bonded to high-purity silica gel. It is designed for us with lower pH mobile phases, and its increased stability results in longer column life and better resistance to aggressive mobile phases.
Orosil GOLD PFPP stationary phase has multiple binding mechanisms, including dipole-dipole and aromatic. This phase is particularly good for separating (steroids) isomers, and retaining highly hydrophilic compounds
Phases: C18, Polar C18, C18-ER, PFPP
pH Range: 1.5-9.0
Matrix C18 Column
Matrix C18 uses base-deactivated, ultra-high purity silica gel, densely bonded to produce an inert material ideally suited for the analysis of basic compounds. The resulting hydrophobic surface is also stable over a wide pH range (2-9) to allow for excellent method flexibility.
Matix C18 AQ- Polar analysis in high Aqueous Mobile phases. Interspersed with hydrophilic end-capping group.
Phases: C8, C18, C18AQ, Nh2, Polychrome
pH Range: 2-9.0
Monitor Reversed-Phases HPLC Column
Monitor is a top-quality phase, providing excellent stability and reproducibility, and minimal secondary interaction. Monitor is a perfect choice for reversed phase separations requiring thoroughly base-deactivated columns, and excels in challenging pharmaceutical and peptide separations. We developed Monitor expressly for the chromatography of difficult-to-separate samples.
Phases: silica, C8, C18
pH Range: 2-8
Orosil Platinum Prep Column for Insulin Purification
Orochem offers 10 micron spherical Orosil Platinum C8 prep columns for Insulin and GLP-1 purification. Orosil Platinum C8 is produced through the sol-gel process using extremely pure silica, with excellent control over particle size and pore size distribution.
Phases: C8, C18
