Orochem Technologies Inc. is expertise in separation, isolation, and purification of sugars such as mannose, glucose, and tagatose sugars from hydrolysate isomerate and fermentation feed streams using SMB chromatography technology. These sugars are used in medical and food industries where lower calorie sugar compounds are in high demand. Our technology includes effective separation of sugars from feed streams to yield a high recovery, highly pure product. We are dedicated to helping our customers worldwide in achieving this goal.

Galactose-Tagatose (1)
Galactose-Tagatose
Production of Tagatose by Continuous Chromatographic Separation of Lactose Hydrolysate Isomerate :Hydrolysate Isomerate
Simulated Moving Bed (SMB) chromatography is a continuous purification technique that has higher throughput and requires less solvent than regular batch chromatography. Even for difficult separations, it can achieve high yield and high purity at a reasonable production rate.Process principle:
SMB is a chromatographic technique based on a flow of liquid moving countercurrent to a constant flow of solid (stationary phase). Countercurrent flow enhances the potential for the separation and, hence, makes the process more efficient. It also allows a continuous flow of feed material to be separated, which improves the throughput of the equipment compared to traditional batch chromatography.Tagatose separation:
Tagatose is manufactured starting from Milk whey, which is major source of lactose. Lactose is hydrolyzed using enzymatic beads into monosaccharaides, Glucose and Galactose. Unconverted lactose, salts can be separated from sugar mixture using Ion-exchange SMB process. Sugar mixture is then separated using ISOSEP SMB unit consisting Ion exchange resin that efficiently separates high purity Glucose and Galactose as product streams, (95-99 wt. % purity) with high recovery. Glucose stream can be concentrated and commercialized as high purity Glucose syrup whereas Galactose stream is enzymatically/chemically isomerized to Tagatose. TGSEP SMB unit, available from Orochem Technologies Inc., can separate Tagatose at 95-99 wt. % purity and high concentrations as well. -
Glucose-Mannose (1)
Glucose-Mannose
Production Mannose from Palm kernel ferment by SMB Technology:
Mannose is a sugar monomer of the aldohexose series of carbohydrates. Mannose is important in human metabolism, especially in the glycosylation of certain proteins. Several congenital disorders of glycosylation are associated with mutations in enzymes involved in mannose metabolism. Mannose can be recovered industrially by Palm kernel cake using enzymatic process. The feed stock consists of about 8.5% mannose, 1.2% glucose, 0.1% galactose, arabinose, phenolic compounds and biomass/proteins. Mannose can be separated from sugar mixture using Ion exchange SMB process developed by Orochem Technologies Inc. OROSEP SMB unit consisting Ion exchange resin that efficiently separates high purity Mannose syrup as product streams, (95 wt. % purity) with high recovery. The syrups can be sold commercially or can be crystallized to obtain high purity mannose crystals (99.5%+ purity). Orochem is involved is commercialization of this unit at 50,000L/day plant capacity.Mannose crystallization:
Orochem has developed novel crystallization technique for the high purity mannose extract to yield 99%+ purity mannose crystals with very high yield (>95 wt%). -
Glucose Fructose (1)
GLUCOSE – FRUCTOSE
Orochem has developed technologies for commercial scale production of Fructose from corn starch as also from Sucrose. The Sucrose conversion technology involves inversion of Sucrose into Glucose & Fructose. Orochem has developed a technology for enzymatic inversion of Sucrose which offers perfect inversion into 50:50 glucose and fructose unlike chemical inversion where the percentage of Glucose is slightly higher and there is some loss due to formation of other unwanted reaction products. Orochem has also developed technology for enzymatic isomerization of Glucose into fructose which offers a very high value addition to the process. Orochem SMB technology offers separation of fructose & glucose from the inversion mix as also from the partially isomerized fructose-glucose mix. The overall fructose manufacturing process offers more than 97% conversion of Sucrose into Fructose.
